My students love their terrariums. At first they acted like they were disgusted by the idea of observing worms (night crawlers), but now they can not get enough of it. An interesting thing happened. Last weekend, I left the top to one of the pop bottles open. When I came in on Monday Morning, I noticed a small fly in the bottle. I put the cap back on the bottle to see what would happen. I did not tell my students because I figured that they would see the fly. Well, they never did. Then, today there was larvae in the soil. I tried to explain to them what happened, but I can not convince them that it may not be a baby worm. We’ll see what happens.
